Aliyar Reservoir Aliar Reservoir located in Aliyar village near Pollachi town in Coimbatore district foothills of Valparai in the western ghats. About 65 kilometers away from Coimbatore. Aliyar dam was constructed during 1959 to 1969 across the Aliyar river. It is opened on 2nd October 1962 by the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Chief Minister of Tamilnadu K.Kamarajar. Hydro Electric Power system started on 2002. Aliyar dam is located above 918 feet from the main sea level on the Anamalai mountain range inter connected with in the Anamalai Tiger Reservoir. Hydel power projects of Aliyar inter connected with the water sources from Parambikulam, Sholaiyar, Thunakkadavu, Thekkadi and Palar rivers. Also for irrigation projects. Nilgiri Mountains Nilgiri mountains are situated in West Ghats. 24 mountains cotained in Nilgiris. The highest peak of these mountain range is Dottabetta height of 2637 metres. Three national parks covered this mountains. One of them is Mudumalai National park covering an area of 321km square and the other is Mukurthy National Park covering an area of 78.5 km square and the third one is Silent Valey National Park. History records gives many results about Nilgiri mountains. After 1800 the hills devoloped by British Government. In 1827 Ooty became the official Sanatorium and the summer capital of Madras Presidency. Cauvery Cauvery is the largest river in Tamilnadu. Also third largest after Godaviri and Krishna in South India. Cauvery originating the hills of West Ghats at Talakavery at Kodagu in Karnataka.It covers 81155 kilometres with many tributes such as Hemavati, Kabini,Bhavani,Noyyal.
