SIRUVANI DAM
Siruvani is a dam in Palakkad district Kerala located 46 km away from Palakkad town. This dam is constructed across the siruvani river, is for supplying water to the city of Coimbatore in Tamilnadu. The dam is surrounded by reserve forests. Muthikulam hill is situated on the eastern side of the dam. There is a natural water fall in the hill. The water fall and dam are big tourist attractions. The location being in the state of Kerala. The project was executed by the Kerala Puplic Work Department using the funds made available by the Tamilnadu government. Out of 100 wards in Coimbatore corporation 24 wards used batore corporate,24 wards used to receive water from siruvani water supply scheme. Out of them 20 wards are being supply with siruvani water. This dam build across on 1927.
The depth of the dam is nearly 50 feet in terms of capacity, it is currently 877.50 m against full capacity 878.50 m. If siruvani dam will filled due to rain falls the water was discharged to Bhavani river through Pillur dam and Attappadi in Kerala to manage the situation. Pillur dam recieved an inflow of 10000 cubic feet. Of that 6000 cubic feet was discharged into the Bhavani river. The source of siruvani river is a river near Coimbatore. It is tributary of Bhavani river. Part of the siruvani river is near Mannarkad -Kerala. The siruvani dam is also near Banon fort. Siruvani dam and Banon fort are 15 to 20 kilometer west of Coimbatore city. The taste of siruvani water is better than other waters. This is the Asias second tastiest water. Not only Coimbatore the nearest places are covered by drinking water of siruvani. More tasty and more healthy for all and most of the people used to drink and washed cloths and more activities for this water. So we are proud of this water source.
