Cauvery is the largest river in Tamilnadu. Also third largest after Godaviri and Krishna in South India. Cauvery originating the hills of West Ghats at Talakavery at Kodagu in Karnataka.It covers 81155 kilometres with many tributes such as Hemavati, Kabini,Bhavani,Noyyal. It covers three states.At Tamilnadu 43000 square kilometres,Karnataka 23000 kilometres. Also covered 260 square kilometres in Puduchery. The river source for irrigation system and hydroelectric power system. Cauvery supported mostly for agriculture in Tamilnadu. Also drinking water for our lifehood.
Irrigation-
Irrigation is the main system in Tamilnadu. Trichy,Tanjavur are the main districts for irrigation. Tanjavur is also known as Nelkalanchiam of Tamilnadu. Across Cauvery Mettur dam is the most powerful irrigation project. It covers 1500 metre long and 54 metre high. The Mettur project completed in 1934 and created an agricultural and industrial area by improving irrigation and providing hydropower.Cauvery breaks Srirangam islands. Second dam across is Kollidam. Another oldest functional dam Kallanai was present across the river. Also Krishnarajasagar dam has capacity 49tmc ft. Kallanai was the project given by Karikalan the Chola emperor.
Falls in Cauvery-
Sivashamudram falls is situated in Cavery river. This is the second biggest water falls in India. Hogenakkal falls is the another falls across Cauvery. It is located in Dharmapuri districts. It is also called as Nayagara of India. As per Supreme court order on 16 February 2018 Karnataka will get 284.75 tmc ft,Tamilnadu will get 404.25 tmc ft and Puduchery will get 7 tmc ft.
