Sericulture

Sericulture, or silk farming, is the rearing of silkworms for the production of silk. Although there are several commercial species of silkworms,Bombyx mori (the caterpillar of the domesticated silk moth) is the most widely used and intensively studied silkworm.
Silk was first produced in China as early as the Neolithic period.[1] Sericulture has become an important cottage industry in countries such as BrazilChinaFranceIndia,ItalyJapan, Korea, and Russia. Today, China and India are the two main producers, with more than 60% of the world's annual production.
According to confucian text the discovery of silk production dates to about 2700BC.Now we go to see what is silk worm,,,Silk warm larvae are fed with mulberry leaves.Mulberry leaves only they eat. Before we see what is larvae how it comes,,,,Larvae comes from eggs of moth.Yes the silk mouth lays thousands of eggs. The silk moth eggs hatch to farm larvae or caterpillars known as silkworms. Larvae feed on mulberry leaves having grown and moulted several times and then weaves a net to hold itself. The silk solidites when it contacts air.The silkworm spins approximately one mile or filament completely encloses itself ina COCOON in about two or three days,..The amount of usable quality silk in each cocoon is small, but as a result about 2500 silkworms are required to produce a pound of raw silk. The intact cocoons are boiled  killing the silkworm pupae. The silk is obtained by brushing the undamaged cocoon to find the outside end of the filament,.The silk filaments are then wound on a reel. One cocoon contains approxymately 1000 yards of silk filament. The silk of this stage is known as raw silk. One thread comprises up to 48 individual silk filaments.
MOULTING OF SILKWORMS-- The silk moth  lays eggs ,hatch to form larvae or caterpillars.known as silkworms.Silkworms fed on mulberry leaves. In its lifecycling they moulted FOUR TIMES.Yes they moult one time become bigger in size and ate much more. The first moult accure on three days later. After 3 days they cannot eat mulberry leaves and become calm and quiet. After 24 hours they finished first moult and eat leaves. Two days continue to eat leaves and then come to start second moult.Only two days have taken by larvae for second moult. After
second moult larvaes be
come some larger in size ate leaves some extra. Then after three days they become moulted their skin ,that is third moult.Every moult they have taken 24 hours time for moulting At this time they have bigger in size and eat more leaves. After 3 or 4 days they have in fourth moult. After fourth moult the silkworm take some long time ,exactly  one week and more for eat fullof mulberry leaves as larger in size such as human finger. After one week they become shining and not to eat leaves and to spin itself, asilk thread. One fullday they have to spin itself, and become COCOON.Yes cocoons are farmed like this. After 3 or 4 days cocoons boiled and killed. After killing of larvaes the cocoons being wound on reel. Then we get raw silk. This is larvaes lifecycle or silkworms lifecycle.Cocoons uses and its products are costlier.we know something later about it.
SILK SILK SILK----Silk fabric was first devoloped in ancient china.Silk has long history in india. We know much more about this.It is known as RESHAM in eastern and north india and PATTU in southern part of india.India is the second largest producer of silk in the world after china.China silk is famous.About 97 %of  raw silk comes from the indian states namely Andhrapradesh,Karnataka,Jammu and Kashmir ,TamilNadu and West Bengal..North Bengaluru The upcoming site of a $20 Million  SILK CITY Ramanagar and Mysore contribute to a majority 0f silk production in Karnataka. In TamilNadu mulberry cultivation is concentrated in the Coimbatore ,Erode,Tirupper,Salem and Dharmapuri.
Hydrabad Andhrapradesh and Gobichettipalayam Tamilnadu were the first locations to have automated silk reeling units in India.India is also the largest consumer of silk in the world .The tradition of wearing silk sarees for marriages and other auspicious ceremonies is a custom in Assam and southern part of india.Silk is considered to be a symbol of royalty and historically silk was primarily by the upper classes.Silk garments and sarees produced in Kanchipuram,Pochampalli,Dharmavaram,Mysore Arani inthe south Banaras ,in the north and Murshidabad in east are well recognised..Three different types of silk are produced collectively called Assam silk.
