JACK FRUIT


Jack fruit is a delicious fruit which can be cultivated in tropical regions. The origin of jack fruit known as rain forests of Western Ghats. It is cultivated in India, Burma, Srilanka, China, Malaysia, and West Indies. It is common in Philippines.Also grown in Queensland and Mauritius. In Africa it is cultivated in Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar. Planted Hawai also. Also it is introduced Brazil in 19th century. It is grown South America also. It is the family of Moraceae. Jack fruit tree is the largest tree than other trees. About 30 to 70 feet tall in height. Ever green alternate glossy leaves. All parts contain a white sticky latex. The tree is monoecious. Male flowers are 5 to 10 cm in length. Female flowers are rounded in shape. The size of the jack fruit 20 to 90 cm long and 15 to 50 cm wide. The interior consist of large bulbs fully developed perianths, yellow banana flavored flesh massed among in narrow and a central pithy core. Each bulbs with light brown seed covered by a thin white membrane. The seed is 2 to 4 cm long and 1 to 2 cm thick. There have been consist of 100 to 500 seeds in a fruit. 


In  South India it is popular food next to banana and mango. About 100000 trees in backyards grown for shade in pepper, coffee and cardamum plantations. In India it is calculated about 15000 acres. Also in Srilanka 10000 acres mainly for timbers and also fruits. Fruits exported to other countries. Thailand also cultivated for fruits. In South India two varieties were found. One of the variety is small fibrous soft mushy very sweet in taste. Other variety is soft sweet and broken open with hands. These types of fruits cultivated and harvested in Thailand, Srilanka, China and India. The jack fruit is mostly adapted only tropical regions. In India it grows tall and thin because of its sand and climate. Naturally fruits mature 5 to 8 months from flowering. In Tamilnadu it is cultivated all parts of the state. But we are all know about Panrutty Jack fruit. Panrutty and its surrounding areas it cultivated and harvested mostly. Also the fruits exported to other places. The bulbs inside jack fruit is only yellow in color in our country But in Bangladesh bulbs are white in color. 



 Health benefits of jack fruit- One cup of  sliced jack fruit contains 157 calories, 2 grams fat, 38 grams carbs, 3 grams protein and 40 milligrams calcium. It contains higher vitamins, minerals also rich in Vitamin C. It also contains niacin, pottasiam and magnesium. Also have Vitamin A and antioxidants. It may prevent diseases like cancer, heart problems and eye problems like cataracts. The seeds of jack fruit also disease fighting mostly. The natural chemicals in jack fruit prevent ulcer disease. Also it digest and absorbs slowly than other fruits so that blood sugar won't raise as quickly as other fruits. So body  diabetes control blood sugar. The pottasium is in it so it could help and control one of  lower blood pressure.Also heart disease and bone lose and stroke. Skin problems control because Vitamin C in it. Jack fruit have phytonutrients so natural compounds that might have cancer-fighting benefit in it. So preventing cancer sells forming in our body. To keep flesh of jack fruit in cool place it will use about 6 weeks. So jack fruit is not only a tasty food also a medicinal food.


In Tamilnadu Dindugal also jack fruit cultivated in many places. Mango banana and jack fruit are the three fruits mainly used for its cultural events. In Tamil New Year these three fruits are the main events of devotional purposes.  Jack fruit recipies are mostly liked by the people all over the world.
