TOMATO

TOMATO--------A tomato is the edible often red fruits from the plant Solanium lycopercicum.,commanly known  as tomato plant. The tomato is consumed in divers ways including raw as an incredient in many dishes,sauces,salads and drinks. While it is botanically a fruit, it is considered a vegetable for culinary purposes which has caused some cunfusion.  The tomato belongs to the nightshade family. The plants typically grow to 1-3metres in hight and have a weak stem that often sprawels over the ground. An average common tomato weighs 102-103 grams. The tomatto is now grown worldwide for its edible fruits. About 150 million tons of tomatoes were produced in the world in 2009. China is the largest producer followed by United States and India. There are around 7500 tomato varieties grown for various purposes. Hybrid plants remain common since they tend to be heavier producers. Tomato varieties are roughly divided into several catagries based mostly on shape and size.   PLUM TOMATO--These are past tomatoes,bred with higher solids content for use in tomato sauce and paste. PEAR TOMATO--These are obviously peare in shaped. CHERRY TOMATO--Small and round in size often sweet generally eaten in salads.  GRAPE TOMATO--Most recent introduction smaller and belong used in salads. COMPARI TOMATO--These are also sweet and noted for their jucines low acidity and lack of mealines.bigger than cherry tomato and smaller than plum tomato.


 In Tamilnadu tomato cultivated mostly in south.  Coimbatore district,and Salem, are the most tomato producers. In Coimbatore especially Pollachi and Kinathukkadavu are the famous for tomato cultivation. Many more acres of lands many more varities of tomatoes and many more purchasers of various places come and purchase tomatoes. Hybrid varieties give higher yeild. The collected tomatoes from plants formed in boxes and send it to market. At the time of North East Monsoons tomato gives higher yeild and the producers have great joy for higher value of the production. Kinathukkadavu vegetable market is a famous one for south region in Tamilnadu.  Collecting vegetables export to Kerala mainly. Yes Kerala is the main purchaser of vegetables from Tamilnadu. Tomato used mostly in food items. This also called POOR PEOPLES APPLE,  ..Tomato juice, salad ketchep are edible items. Tomato rice is main food in village areas of Tamilnadu. Tomato rice with curd is tasty.
